A History Shaped by Water

Seven Lochs: A History Shaped by Water was designed by Seven Lochs Wetland Park in partnership with local community groups as part of Visit Scotland’s Year of Coasts of Waters 2021/22. It was supported by Historic Environment Scotland and the National Heritage Lottery Fund.

The project explored how the inland waters of the Seven Lochs Wetland Park has attracted and supported human habitation for over 10,000 years. Taking inspiration from an archaeological site within the park, or an heritage collecting relating to the area, community groups explored five themes – Scotland’s Hunters and Gatherers, Living on the Loch: Inland Crannogs, Medieval Lochside Living, Harnessing Water and Powering Industry and Changing Recreation. The groups shared their findings through images, animation, videos and oral history to create engaging online interpretation that tells the watery history of the Seven Lochs.  Pop over to Our Heritage pages to find out more!
