Hogganfield Centenary Events
Hogganfield Loch has always been a popular destination for recreation with strolling, bird watching, skating being popular pastimes. In the 1920’s Glasgow Corporation began to acquire land around the loch and made a number of improvements to create a public park. Works included increasing the depth of the loch for boating, creating a promenade around the loch and establishing areas for picnic parties.
The park was officially opened on the 4th of July 1924. It was described in the Oban Times as ‘….a gigantic pleasure ground….sure to a big attraction for thousands who will be unable to leave the city in the Fair holidays’
Join us to celebrate the park’s centenary with two key events over July
